Sunderland Fall Fair (4) Sunderland Agricultural Society

September 14 to September 15, Fair opens at 5 p.m. on Tuesday

Sunderland 2021 Fall Fair Update

The Sunderland Agricultural Society regrets to announce that, for the second consecutive year, it has been deemed necessary to cancel the 2021 Sunderland Fall Fair.

The Executive met recently to discuss the implications of the present situation and the potential for the future easing of restrictions affecting outdoor events. As a result of these discussions, the responses expressed in a survey of committee chairpersons, a review of the provincial guidelines for outdoor events, consultation with the Township and a subsequent online vote by the Board of Directors, we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the 2021 fair in its usual format.

This decision was based on the fact that while there may be an easing of restrictions for outdoor events in terms of capacity limits, there will still be significant Covid 19 protocols in place and it is most unlikely that any indoor events will be permitted at all.

The Sunderland Agricultural Society is committed to the health and safety of our members, volunteers and patrons. Consequently, while we regret this decision, we feel it is necessary for the well-being of all.

In a second motion, the Board of Directors voted to explore the possibility of holding some modified shows in those instances where we have sufficient volunteers to implement the capacity limits and required safety protocols.

Originating in 1851, Sunderland Fall Fair is the oldest fair in Durham Region. Through our events and activities, we seek to celebrate our community’s agricultural heritage and demonstrate the often forgotten links between the land and the food we eat. Our events' list includes an antique tractor and car show, light and heavy horse classes, a lawn tractor pull, a 4-H dairy event, displays of field crops, flowers, plants and vegetables as well as home craft classes for baking, quilting, preserves, woodworking and many others. Entertainment is provided throughout the Fair, often showcasing local talent, and of course there is an Adventure Land, full of inflatable structures, for the enjoyment of our younger patrons. The final event of the Fair is the ever popular and always well-attended demolition derby. There’s a lot going on for a mid-week fair. Come ou and enjoy the fun!
